Current Position: Mattia Mori, PhD, is Senior Researcher (RTD-B L. 240/2010) in Medicinal Chemistry since 2018 at the University of Siena, Italy.
Research activity and interest: Dr. Mori’s research group (Computational Medicinal Chemistry Lab) focuses on the use of computational modeling tools towards two primary aims: i) understanding motions and conformational/energetic landscape of relevant macromolecules in nanosecond to microsecond timescale; ii) design and optimization of small molecules of pharmacological relevance able to modulate target proteins in human diseases. Specifically, the group is interested in cancer (hedgehog signaling pathway, epigenetic modulators, tubulin, Notch signaling pathways) and infectious disease (mostly HIV-1, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, antibacterial drug resistance). In this context, natural products are a unique and privileged source of hit/lead compounds as well as are tools for understanding chemical biology of target proteins. Natural products are largely used in virtual screening and drug design approaches carried out by the group. Thanks to multiple and consolidated national and international collaborations, experimental proof of our theoretical findings is provided.
Overall, in the period 2016-2020 the group has published more than 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals, three patents applications and four editorials.
